Soon Li Yong Tau Foo

My first meal of 2014 was at Soon Li Yong Tau Foo located at Blk 115 Bukit Merah View #01-78. Given that the store’s opening hours are from 10 pm to whenever they sell out, this stall is one of the staple go-to’s for supper after a night of heavy drinking. And it is precisely because I had so much to drink that, save for the photo of the stall itself, I took no other pictures.

That’s incredibly unfortunate because this has to be one of the best, if not the best, Yong Tau Foo stalls in Singapore. Not only is the soup subtle yet rich, but the bee hoon / mee it is served with is topped with an amazing chilli and sweet sauce. Perhaps it’s the Singaporean roots but I absolutely hate chilli sauces which aren’t spicy enough. This one is.

Apart from the soup base and the bee hoon / mee, the pig intestines, pork belly, fish swim bladder (fish maw) and other yong tau foo favorites like fish paste stuffed green chillis / tofu are excellent!

It is precisely because the food is so good that you are advised that there will almost inevitably be a queue. Worse still is that the stall may actually sell out earlier than expected so try not to go later than 2 am.

In conclusion, this yong tau foo is without a doubt in the “die die must try category of quality; I wouldn’t blog about it otherwise. Be prepared to queue but then again, it’s usually good to assume that people wouldn’t queue unless unless there was something good waiting at the end of the line.
